Cervinia Luxury Ski Chalets
High altitude and sunny skiing with stunning scenery, Cervinia is a paradise for intermediate skiers.
Cervinia, located on the Italian side of the famous Matterhorn mountain, shares its extensive ski area with Zermatt located over in Switzerland. Situated at an altitude of 2,050m, this snow-sure ski resort offers a wonderfully array of long and gently ski slopes that are just perfect for intermediate skiers. Sunny slopes and spectacular scenery just add to appeal, whilst the altitude makes it a great choice for early and late season ski holidays.
The ski area is called the Cervino Ski Paradise and is defined by three sectors, Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche on the Italian side, and Zermatt on the Swiss side (Matterhorn Ski Paradise). The area is connected by a vast network of slopes and lifts that allow you to ski all day without ever having to take your skis off. The main slopes above Cervinia are high and open, and mainly west-facing. The vast majority of the ski lifts are modern and fast, meaning lift queues are a rarity.
Head up to the mid mountain base of Plan Maison via a gondola from the resort centre, and here you can enjoy plenty of easy cruising to get your ski legs before heading further into the ski area. For those who love long ski slopes you are certainly in the right resort, with one of the longest pistes in the world descending 13km from the Plateau Rosa at 3,480m, all the way down to Valtournenche at 1,525m.
For those looking to take their first turns on snow, Cervinia is an excellent place to learn. There is a good nursery slope in the village with a magic carpet and adjacent chairlift. After you have your ski legs and are turning, you can head up to the Plan Maison, where you can enjoy and progress on gentle blue runs. With a blue run all the way back into resort, you will soon be on your way to discovering the joy of skiing long runs from mountain top to village base.
For those who love the challenge of steep skiing, or moguls, it is best to head over to the slopes on the Zermatt side of the ski area. Whilst there you can not only delight in the skiing, but also partake in long lunches in the world’s best mountain restaurants, all with the backdrop of the iconic face of the Matterhorn. For those wanting to hit the terrain park, Cervinia has one of the best in Italy and is around 400m long.
Back down in the resort, the cobbled main street is traffic free and there are around 50 restaurants and a handful of après ski venues to choose from. For those arriving by plane, Turin is the nearest international airport, but Milan and Geneva are also good options with a transfer time of 3 hours or less. All in all, Cervinia makes a great choose for groups with mixed skiing abilities, with the added joy of one of the world’s most magnificent mountain setting.
