WOW – The 2014/15 winter season is now in full flow and conditions could not be better.
In Courchevel, with blue skies up above and soft, fluffy snow below our skis or snowboards, this is a marvellous time to be in the mountains. This though leads me to another marvellous winter diversion that I encountered on the slopes.
We are all familiar with the the nursery rhyme ‘The Teddy Bears Picnic’ and during my day out in Courchevel this certainly sprang to mind. But to paraphrase the opening line to something more appropriate, ‘If you go out to the mountains today your sure of a big surprise!. The surprise being a 20 foot tall white bear perched menacingly on the mountain top!
'L'art au Sommet'
To those wondering, like me, how this magnificent beast came to rest within a stunning panorama, we have the French artist Richard Orlinski to thank. Each year the ski resort Courchevel organises the ‘L’art au Sommet’ where an internationally renown artist is invited to mix the mountains with their art. This certainly creates some stunning picture opportunities.
