Located at the heart of the 3 Vallées ski area and developed in a traditional Savoyard style, Méribel is one of the most popular European resorts and rightly so. Made-up of many beautiful private chalets, which are constructed using local stone and light-coloured wood, the resort really does blend itself into its woodland surroundings.
This endlessly charming resort also has all of the amenities and shops you would expect, including the Parc Olympique sports centre built for the 1992 Albertville Olympics. Après-ski and live music is plentiful and the lively bars buzz late into the night.
There are many quick and easy lifts to the 150km of pistes in Méribel Valley and the 600km of pistes of the 3 Vallées to make your stay a truly enjoyable experience.
What's new in 2015/16
So what have Méribel Alpina, the company who look after the ski lifts in Méribel come up with for the forthcoming 2015/16 winter ski season:
Understanding that we now all feel the need to be connected via the internet, even when on our holidays, Méribel Alpina have installed WiFi hotspots at select places across the Méribel ski area. You can find these at the start of the Altiport chairlift, at the Moon Park chalet, the top of the Tougnete chairlift and Saulire gondola. Other access points are at the Chaudanne lounge, the Plan des Mains restaurant and at the start of the Mont Vallon gondola.
A parallel slalom will be in place at the Altiport where you can race family and friends. It will be filmed and timed so it’s a great opportunity to test your skills against the rest of the family.
How to get there: take the Saulire Express 1 and get out at the first stop. Follow signs to the Altiport, it is located below the start of the Dent de Burgin chairlift.
New ‘Animal Piste’ – to keep the younger children entertained – follow a path through the forest, learn about the animal tracks you may see on the mountain and learn to recognise their calls.
How top get there: take the Saulire Express gondola lift and get off at the first stop and follow signs for the Altiport. The Animal Park is located at the start of the Dent de burgin chairlift.
The Altai Dragon Trail – have fun finding the full-sized dragons hidden along this new fun piste.
How to get there: It’s located at the top of the Loze chairlift. Take the Saulire Express gondola and get off at the first stop. Follow signs for the Altiport and then take the Loze chairlift.
There will be a new photo point at the top of the Olympic chairlift where you can get photographed for free and share the photos with friends and family. There will also be giant picture frames positioned around resort where you can take your own photos, the most inventive ones may well win a prize if you share it with Méribel Alpina on their social media. You’re not going to know where the frames are located, you’ll have to find them as you go.
You can still enjoy a range of activities on offer at the Inuit Village: igloo building, snowball fights and mush more. During the school holiday you can meet a musher and his sled dogs. Also once a week you can take part in a special family contest and teens contest at the moon Park.
The lift system and ski piste maintenance in Méribel and onward into the 3 Valleys is up there with the best in the World. After another year of extensive investment, we are looking forward to heading back there this winter to enjoy being at the heart of the biggest ski area in the World.
We have many catered and self-catered ski chalets to suit all group sizes and tastes throughout the Méribel valley. Just give us a call or drop us an email and let us do the rest to find your accommodation for your prefect ski holiday.
