Redeveloped Phoenix Residence burns bright in Courchevel 1550
The 2019/20 season saw an exciting new accommodation development released in the resort of Courchevel 1550. The old and centrally located ‘Les Grangettes’ apartment residence underwent a substantial re-development that took almost 2 years to complete. It turned a dated block of 102 apartments into a luxury, ski in ski out residence of just 21 contemporary apartments now known as the Phoenix Residence.
This wonderful new property offers stylish apartments of various sizes at excellent value prices. The smallest start at 51m2, sleeping 4 to the largest penthouse apartment with an extensive 254m2 of living space along with an impressive 100m2 of private terrace, sleeping up to 12. You enter the residence into a communal reception area and all apartments benefit from access to the dedicated and shared spa area equipped with a steam room, sauna, massage room and relaxation area. For self-drivers there is also the added bonus of allocated parking.
The resort of Courchevel 1550 has often been overlooked by the more famous Courchevel 1850, or larger Courchevel 1650, though it is now rightly becoming increasingly popular with our clients and it’s easy to see why. Not only are there great value properties such at the Phoenix Residence but the resort itself has a lot to offer including all of the essential amenities needed for a self-catered ski holiday. There’s a supermarket, ski hire shops and several bars and restaurants. I love the L’Oeil de Boeuf, a cosy restaurant offering an authentic French dining experience with the joy of watching your food being cooked on the open fireplace/grill.
For those with children the resort has an ESF recreational club dedicated to children aged 18 months to 12yrs. There’s a baby club for the toddlers and children aged 3 – 12 years have access to various activities and ski lessons. ESF also provide full ski lessons for all ages starting in the village.
The Grangettes gondola next to the Phoenix residence links straight to Courchevel 1850. Operating early it provides access to the numerous international ski schools and finishing around 7pm gives you the opportunity to enjoy the après ski to the full before downshifting home.
If you like to take a day out from skiing or perhaps have non skiers in the group, then the Aquamotion Centre is within easy walking distance of the resort. More than just a swimming pool complex this aquatic centre offers sport, wellness and fun for all the family. You could try your hand at surfing on the standing wave or relax your aching muscles in a toning leg bath.
For groups of friends, several families, or those looking for private spa facilities we’d highly recommend the stunning Phoenix Penthouse apartments.
My Top Tip: For some family fun on the snow but off the skis rent a sled in the resort and take the Grangettes gondola up to Courchevel 1850. At the edge of the Tovets ski sun starts a 2km long sledging run straight back into Courchevel 1550. It has 300m of vertical and an average incline of 15%. It’s even floodlit at night and open until 7.30pm.
