Meribel is made up of several areas and villages, each offering a different atmosphere, accommodation, and access to various slopes and ski lifts. Depending on your requirements for ski access, proximity to resort centre and ski school, or size and service level of the accommodation, Meribel has accommodation that will suit everyone’s needs.

Meribel Centre

Meribel Centre, located at 1,450m altitude, sits at the heart of the resort and is the acknowledged hub and resort centre. It is where you find the main ski lifts and ski school meetings points located on the snow front called La Chaudanne. The vast amount of accommodation in the resort centre consists of self-catered apartments, along with a small selection of catered and self-catered chalets.

The Chaudanne can be reached by either walking through the centre on a footpath or using the efficient resort ski bus service. An alternative is also to use the escalator tucked away next to the tourist office right in the resort centre, which takes you quickly up onto the piste, followed by a short ski down on a blue run to the main ski lifts.

The resort centre offers a wide range of amenities, including supermarkets, a pharmacy, numerous bars and restaurants, clothing boutiques, and sports shops for purchasing or hiring ski or snowboard equipment. Additionally, the large sports complex, Parc Olympique, is also located here.

Meribel Mussillon

The Mussillon area of Meribel, located at the entrance to the resort, is known as Meribel’s chalet quarter. Here, you’ll find a great selection of medium and large sized chalets offering catered accommodation, along with some bed & breakfast and self-catered options. Mussillon is west facing so enjoys the last of the afternoon sun until it disappears behind the ski slopes on the opposite side of the valley.

The area is an easy 8 to 10-minute walk from the resort centre, but you can also take one of the frequent in-resort buses for a quick three-minute ride to the main snow front at the Chaudanne. Also, many of the chalets located in this area offer an in-resort driver service to make it easy to access the slopes and resort amenities. Mussillon also features a supermarket, cheese shop, bar, restaurant, and the famous Sully’s nightclub.

Route des Chalets & Route de la Renarde

Route des Chalets and Route de la Renarde are two tree lined one-way roads that run alongside the Doron piste, stretching from the Rond Point area down to the resort centre. Route des Chalets extends from Le Rond Point to Altitude 1600, while Route de la Renarde continues from Altitude 1600 to the resort centre. Along these routes you will find a variety of exclusive catered and self-catered chalets and chalet apartments.

A key advantage of these properties is their proximity to the Doron piste, a blue run that leads down to the Chaudanne, making it easy to reach the main ski school meeting points and lifts in the morning. Depending on the location of your chalet on these routes, you’ll be a short walk from restaurants, bars, and shops, whether situated at the Rond Point, Altitude 1600, or the resort centre.

Meribel Morel 1600

Meribel Morel is located at an altitude of 1,600m, and offers a varied choice of catered and self-catered chalets, as well as lots of great value and good quality self-catered apartments. This excellent location, just above the resort centre, features the Morel chairlift, which takes you up to the Altiport area. From there, you can ski in the beginner area at the Altiport or head over to the Rond Point area and take the Adret chairlift up the mountain, avoiding any queues that might be at the main lift hub at La Chaudanne. The blue Hulotte piste also returns you to the bottom of the Morel chairlift at the end of your ski day.

Morel 1600 also offers a small selection of restaurants and bars, a supermarket, and a couple of ski rental shops. It’s about a 15-minute walk down to the resort centre on a footpath, but the uphill return journey might be more comfortable by taking advantage of the free ski bus which runs late into the evening.

Meribel Plateau

Méribel Plateau is located just before Le Rond Point and above Morel 1600. This area primarily features self-catered apartments along with a few chalets. It offers quick access to the Doron piste, allowing you to ski down directly to the Chaudanne. The area offers a couple of ski hire shops, a small supermarket, restaurant, and a bar.

A short walk up to the Rond Point provides additional restaurants, bars, and a bakery. To reach the resort centre, it is best to utilise the free in-resort bus service, or it is also easy to call for a taxi. If you prefer to walk to the resort centre, it is a 30-minute downhill stroll via Route des Chalets & Route de la Renarde.

Meribel Le Rond Point

The Rond Point area is a fantastic ski-in ski-out location on the blue Doron and green Forêt piste, allowing you to ski down to the Chaudanne. Alternatively, you can ski quickly down to the closer Adret chairlift, which takes you much higher up the mountain, helping you avoid the morning busyness at the Chaudanne.

The accommodation here mainly consists of self-catered apartments in large residences, some of which feature shared wellness facilities. The famous Rond Point après-ski bar (the Ronny), known for its daily live music or DJs on the terrace, is also located here and obviously named after its location.

There is also a small selection of restaurants, a bakery, ski hire shops, and a small supermarket. For access to the main resort centre, there is a bus stop that provides all day transportation to the resort centre.

Belvedere

Belvedere is an exclusive area in Méribel, situated just above the Rond Point. Here, you’ll find luxurious 5-star chalets, upscale apartment residences with spa facilities, and self-catered apartments with expansive mountain views. Many of the accommodations offer either ski-in ski-out access or are within a short walk to the ski slopes.

This upscale neighbourhood offers a quiet and elevated setting, whilst the frequent shuttle bus service is available to access the amenities at Le Rond Point. From there, you can access the shops and restaurants or take the in-resort bus to the resort centre. If your accommodation doesn’t include a driver service, this shuttle service is a convenient alternative.

Meribel Mottaret

Méribel Mottaret is a purpose-built resort situated further along and up the valley from Méribel, beginning at an altitude of 1750 meters. It primarily offers self-catered apartment accommodation, many of which are ski-in ski-out, along with a few chalets.

For keen skiers, you can easily access Val Thorens and the Belleville Valley, as well as reach the top of Saulire for exploring Courchevel. A lovely 2km long and tree-lined green run called the Truite, connects Meribel Mottaret to the main La Chaudanne snow front in Meribel Centre.

Mottaret has a selection of restaurants, small supermarket, and a few bars. For additional amenities, you can take the in-resort bus to the main resort centre, which takes about 10 minutes.

Meribel Village

Méribel Village is a charming and traditional village with winding streets and charming chalets and is located 2.5km from Méribel Centre. It offers a wide array of chalet accommodation both catered and self-catered, along with a many excellent value and conveniently located self-catered apartments. Despite its small size, Méribel Village offers numerous amenities, including a small supermarket, an excellent bakery, an après-ski bar, restaurants, and a ski rental shop.

The Golf chairlift in the village centre offers quick entry into the Méribel ski area, meaning you can bypass the main Chaudanne lift hub. Returning to the village is delightful via the blue Lapin piste, which leads straight into the village centre, where you can enjoy live bands at the après-ski bar. A ski bus stop provides direct access to Méribel Centre and the ski school meeting points in 10 minutes. The resort has a very loyal client base with groups and families returning every season to appreciate all this village has to offer.

Meribel Raffort

This quaint and traditional French village is located just 2.5km before Méribel Centre. For those seeking an authentic ski village experience, there is plenty of charm here, with beautiful houses and narrow streets with some stunning chalets hidden among them. There is also one local restaurant within easy walking distance.

The main resort centre is accessible via either the Olympic gondola which stops next to the village and takes 5 minutes to reach the Chaudanne, or by one of the free in-resort buses. When the snow conditions are favourable, you can ski back to Raffort at the end of the day on red and blue runs that wind through the trees into the village.

SKI AREA

Méribel, situated at the heart of the Three Valleys ski domain, offers convenient access to the extensive 600 kilometres of ski slopes in this vast ski area. Méribel itself boasts 150 kilometres of slopes, featuring 9 black runs, 28 red runs, 25 blue runs, and 8 green runs, ensuring plenty to keep you occupied. Its efficient lift system allows for easy trips to Courchevel, Val Thorens, and St Martin de Belleville. Méribel is an excellent destination for groups with mixed abilities, offering something to satisfy everyone.

The resort centre is located at an altitude of 1450 meters, rising to 2,952 meters at the summit of Mont Vallon. With such large and varied terrain, Méribel caters to all ski and snowboard abilities. Beginners have safe learning areas and numerous blue slopes to progress to, whilst intermediates can enjoy a wide selection of blue and red runs, including long, cruisy trails. Advanced skiers will find challenging black runs, steep reds, and ample off-piste opportunities. Although many slopes are above the treeline, there are sheltered runs for snowy weather days.

BEGINNER SKIERS & SNOWBOARDERS

Meribel is perfect for beginners, offering two dedicated areas and a variety of blue runs for progression. With eight green runs and 25 blue runs, you have plenty of choices. The resort has numerous ski schools, including International and British options with multilingual instructors. These schools offer group lessons, typically with six or eight people, and private lessons for individuals or small groups. We recommend booking in advance and can help match you to the best school.

Most ski school meeting points are at the Chaudanne in the resort centre, next to the Parc Olympic complex. There’s also an ESF Piou Piou at Le Rond Point, and child groups meet there during peak weeks. ESF also runs classes in Meribel Mottaret, with the meeting point in the centre of Mottaret.

In Meribel, the beginner Ski Cool Zone at the Altiport offers a nursery slope with a drag lift. Progress to the Blanchot run for practicing turns, then continue to the Forêt run, which is flat for snowboarders, leading to Le Rond Point. Take the Rhodos gondola back to the Blanchot run. For families, the piste des animaux at the Altiport provides a fun run with interactive experiences and the Inuits play area.

The Zen Zone in Meribel Mottaret features a magic carpet and drag lift. After mastering the nursery slope, take the Combes 1 chairlift to the beginner slopes of Little Himalaya and Yeti Park.

INTERMEDIATE SKIERS & SNOWBOARDERS

Meribel is an excellent resort for those progressing from beginner to intermediate levels, as well as for intermediates seeking to cover more ground and rack up more kilometres each ski day. The Saulire area offers a well-rounded experience with some lovely blue runs accessed from Saulire Express gondola 1 or 2, leading into green slopes, and are perfect for beginners progressing to the next level. Another great area for developing your turns is accessible from the Tougnete gondola, with gentle and wide blue runs like Faon.

For intermediates looking to cover distance, the famous Jerusalem blue run is a long, leisurely route from the ridge line above Meribel that takes you into the Belleville Valley. It connects to the Biolley run into St Martin de Belleville, where you can stop for lunch or hot chocolate before taking the gondola back up.

The Mauduit run, starting from the top of Saulire 2 or Pas du Lac 2 lifts, is a smooth red run that intermediates will thoroughly enjoy. It is often less crowded than other slopes and connects from the blue Biche run before descending all the way down to the Chaudanne. For advanced intermediates seeking a challenge, the Mont Vallon area offers stunning views and thrilling red runs like the Combe du Vallon, the longest run in the 3 Valleys or Campagnol, which are especially enjoyable on a day with fresh snow. Meribel Mottaret also boasts a fine selection of blue runs for intermediates too.

ADVANCED SKIERS & SNOWBOARDERS

Advanced and expert skiers need not worry, as Meribel offers a variety of slopes and off-piste areas to challenge your skills. You can tackle the renowned black run La Face, located at the top of the Olympic chairlift, and which was used for the women’s downhill run during the 1992 Albertville Olympics. The Roc de Tougne chairlift provides access to only red or black runs, including the freeride slope Bartavelle, a long, thigh-burning mogul run that is best tackled before lunch. Notable red runs include Aigle, starting from the top of Pas du Lac 1 gondola and leading into Meribel Mottaret, and Alouette, accessible from the top of the Bouqetin chairlift in Mottaret.

For a unique experience, visit the Vertical Xperience at the top of the Saulire 2 gondola, features two of the steepest black runs in the Three Valleys: Grand Couloir on the Courchevel side and Couloir Tournier on the Meribel side. Make sure to have your GoPro ready to capture the excitement!

If you enjoy off-piste skiing, there are excellent areas to explore. A popular spot is below the Loze Express chairlift, but head there early for the best tracks. Other off-piste areas can be found around the Côte Brune chairlift and from the Olympic express chairlift. Always consult the latest avalanche advice for the day, and if you are unsure where to go or are new to off-piste skiing, hiring an instructor is strongly recommended as they will know the best places to go.

SNOW PARKS

Méribel boasts two thrilling snow parks: the Open Park in Méribel Mottaret, catering to all levels, and the Bump’N’Jump park, accessible from the Chaudanne, ideal for beginners to intermediates.

The Open Park is a vast wonderland for snow enthusiasts, featuring an array of exciting elements such as kickers, rails, boxes of all sizes, a couple of half-pipes, and a long boardercross run. To dive into the adventure of this snow park, simply take the Plattieres gondola or the Chatelet chairlift.

Bump’N’Jump, located at the top of the Legends chairlift, is perfect for those eager to try their first snowpark tricks. It offers three different runs to test your skills. The Bumpy Run challenges you with a series of small bumps and waves of shaped snow, while the Funny Run lets you slide over mini boxes, pass through arches, and high-five various characters, enhancing your skiing agility. Finally, the Speedy Run is a boardercross course with banked turns, jumps, and various features, perfect for racing your friends and pushing your limits.

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING, SNOWSHOEING & WINTER WALKING

Have you ever considered trying cross-country skiing, also known as Nordic skiing? Courchevel, La Tania, and Meribel offer 90km of trails, with 33km located in the Meribel valley alone. These pisted trails cater to all levels, from beginners to seasoned cross-country skiers, ensuring something for everyone.

In Meribel, there are two primary areas with cross-country tracks. For those just starting out, the circuit around Lac de Tueda up in Meribel Mottaret is ideal. It features a lovely 3km green trail with stunning views of the frozen lake and surrounding mountains. More experienced skiers can also enjoy a 5km blue trail here.

The other area is at the Altiport in Meribel. Tracks here begin at Le Blanchot restaurant, making it the perfect spot to meet up with your downhill skiing friends for lunch. The Altiport area offers a variety of tracks, including a few short green trails, a longer 5km blue trail, and a challenging 10km red trail. Red tracks here can also take you over to the cross-country tracks in La Tania and Courchevel.

For beginners, most ski schools offer group or private lessons to help you learn cross-country skiing techniques and provide guided tours of the trails. You can hire equipment at most ski hire shops, and trail guide maps are available at the tourist office. No lift pass is required for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing in Meribel unless you plan to visit Courchevel, where you can purchase a pedestrian pass to use on some of the chairlifts.

Another activity to try is snowshoeing. If you can walk, you can snowshoe! Snowshoeing allows you to escape the busy slopes and explore scenic trails, discovering the unspoilt beauty of the surrounding landscape. Snowshoes and walking poles can be hired at most ski hire shops, and you can pick up a walking guide from the tourist office to explore the many marked trails around Meribel.

The Meribel valley has 18 marked trails with varying levels of difficulty and lengths. You can even meet your skiing friends for lunch at Le Clos Bernard restaurant by taking the trail of the same name. For those who prefer guided walks, then ESF and other ski schools offer tours that provide information on the area’s flora and fauna, track the footprints of mountain animals such as Roe deer, squirrels, and wild boar, and offer bird-watching opportunities in the Tueda Nature Reserve in Meribel Mottaret.

RESORT ACTIVITIES

Meribel offers a plethora of non-ski activities that cater to all ages and interests, making the holiday just as interesting for those looking to explore beyond the slopes. Among the most enchanting experiences is a horse-drawn sleigh ride. Glide through the picturesque Altiport forest near to the Meribel Altiport wrapped in the tranquillity of the snowy landscape. For those seeking something more blood pumping, Ski Joëring presents an exciting challenge. This unique sport involves being pulled on skis by a pony in a snowy arena. It’s essential to be proficient in parallel skiing to fully enjoy this exhilarating experience. Additionally, pony sledging offers a more relaxed but equally delightful way to explore the snow-covered terrain, especially for younger children. At the same centre, visitors can also interact with farm animals and meet some friendly reindeer, adding a touch of rustic charm to this mountain adventure.

Families will find sledging opportunities aplenty in Meribel. The Luge du Doron in Meribel Mottaret with a free magic carpet, is a popular spot for sledging, offering thrilling runs for all ages and safely away from skiers. For the youngest visitors, a safe sledging area up by the Altiport ensures fun without the worry of steep slopes and there is plenty of sledging available on the main snow front in resort centre at La Chaudanne.

For a more adventurous sledding experience, head to the Mission Black Forest toboggan run at the top of the Tougnete 1 gondola. This exhilarating 3.4km run descends 470 meters of altitude and features 28 turns through a magical forest. As the day fades, adventure continues with guided snowmobile tours after dark. Once the slopes have closed, this activity allows you to experience the mountain’s night-time magic, racing through the quiet, starlit landscape.

Although Meribel does not offer dog sledding, you can easily book this captivating experience in nearby Courchevel, Saint Martin de Belleville, or Val Thorens. For those who dream of soaring above the majestic alpine scenery, paragliding provides an unforgettable aerial view of the stunning snow-capped peaks and valleys.

The Parc Olympique in Meribel is a hub of leisure activities, ensuring that there’s never a dull moment off the slopes. Super-U, conveniently located before the main road starts heading up the mountain to Méribel, offers a wide selection of fresh produce as well as kitchen essentials. Alternatively, there is a sizeable Carrefour supermarket in the town of Moutiers itself.

These supermarkets are ideal for those driving to Méribel, as they provide a cost-effective way to purchase supplies. If you are using a transfer service, it’s worth speaking with your transfer company before you travel to see if they can accommodate a stop at one of these supermarkets en-route. Although it may not be possible during peak holiday times, it’s always best to check with the transfer provider.

The layout of Méribel ascends from 1,450m at the resort centre (Meribel Centre) up to 1,700m at the Altiport, and the resort offers a convenient and free bus service. This bus runs frequently throughout the day, connecting all areas of the resort, including a 15minute bus ride down from Le Rond Point travelling through the Plateau and Morel areas towards the resort centre. There are also frequent buses from villages such as Méribel Village, Méribel Raffort, and Méribel Mottaret. The buses operate from 7:15 am until just after midnight, providing ample opportunities for guests to explore different parts of the resort with ease. Additionally, taxis are readily available to help visitors navigate the area comfortably.

While most chalets and apartments are either conveniently located close to the piste or come with an in-resort drivers service, there is also an option to hire ski lockers at the bottom of the Saulire Express at the Chaudanne. This service allows you to store your skis and boots securely and gives you the opportunity to change into your normal footwear should you wish to enjoy the bars and shops in more comfort. These thoughtful amenities collectively ensure that a stay in Méribel is both enjoyable and effortless, allowing visitors to focus on the beauty and excitement of their alpine adventure.

Bar des Pistes in Le Coucou hotel, situated at the top of the resort, offers a perfect spot to relax with a cocktail while watching the last skiers of the day descend the pistes.

Many bars in Méribel also show live sports, with Le Pub and La Taverene being popular choices for watching sporting events. Barometer offers an extensive wine list and a quieter atmosphere, making it a great spot for conversations with friends. Le Pub features live music and DJs, staying open until 2:30am, while the main nightclub, Sully’s, keeps the party going until 5am.

Meribel is close to 4 international airport hubs, Chambery (1hr 45mins / 110km) Grenoble (1hr 50 mins / 130km), Geneva (2hr 30mins / 190km) and Lyon (2hr 30mins / 190km). From these airports you have different transport options, whether you prefer the convenience of either hiring a car or getting a private transfer, the scenic journey by train, or the lower cost of bus travel, reaching Méribel is straightforward.

For those who choose to drive, the journey through the mountainous terrain offers wonderful views, but it is essential to be prepared for winter driving conditions. Ensure you have snow chains, high-vis jacket, warning triangle and self-breathalyser, all legal requirements in the region. Once in Méribel, many of our chalets and apartment will include parking, however if you require additional spaces, there are plenty of options available to rent by the week.

There are four covered car parks; at the Chaudanne is the Rhodos car, in resort centre Dou du Pont car park, up at le Rond Point is Rond Point des Pistes car park and in Meribel Mottaret is Le Hammeau car park located at the top of the resort. It is advisable to reserve parking online and in advance during the peak season to avoid any inconvenience.

Those driving electric vehicles will find the resort accommodating their needs with several electric vehicle (EV) charging points available in the covered car parks. There are two charging points in each of these car parks, Rhodos, Rond Point des Pistes and Le Hameau and 10 charging points in the resort centre car park Dou du Pont. The emphasis on providing EV charging facilities highlights Méribel’s commitment to sustainable tourism and reducing the carbon footprint of its visitors.

Traveling by train is another popular option, particularly for those who prefer a more relaxed and eco-friendlier journey. The closest train station to Méribel is Moûtiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains, located about 18km away. From major cities like Paris, you can take a high-speed TGV train to Moûtiers, which takes around four and a half hours. Once you arrive at Moûtiers, regular shuttle buses and taxis are available to take you directly to Méribel. This combination of train and bus is often seen as a stress-free and scenic way to reach the resort, allowing travellers to enjoy the stunning French countryside without the commitment of driving.

For budget-conscious travellers, buses offer an affordable and efficient means of reaching Méribel. Various bus services operate from major cities and airports directly to the resort. Companies like Altibus provide regular services from Geneva, Lyon, and Grenoble airports to Méribel or Moûtiers, making it a convenient option for those flying into France. The bus journey, while longer than driving, can be quite comfortable with modern coaches equipped with amenities such as Wi-Fi and reclining seats.
