LUXURY SKI CHALETS IN SWITZERLAND
Luxury ski holidays in Switzerland engage all the senses. The jaw dropping scenery, the chocolate box villages, traditional red trains and romantic chalets will leave you with memories like nowhere else.
There is something very special about a ski holiday in one of Switzerland’s authentic resorts, surrounded by spectacular mountains, enjoying the very best food, wine and service. Switzerland has charm by the bucket load and along with the world’s best mountain restaurants, is a magical winter holiday destination.
The Valais region in the southwest of Switzerland is home to the highest concentration of world-class ski resorts in the country. At the forefront here are Zermatt and Verbier, leading the way with first class luxury chalets and stupendous skiing all against an endless Alpine backdrop. These are both expensive ski resorts, but the quality of the hospitality and accommodation is exemplary.
Verbier is a world famous resort that attracts advanced skiers and powder snow seekers from all over the globe. The ski area is extensive and can offer a great sense of travel. Off the mountain there is a very lively après ski scene, pumping nightlife as well as excellent restaurants.
Built in a traditional chalet style, the resort is made up of many different areas and the properties now rival Courchevel 1850 as some of the finest and most luxurious in the Alps.
The increasingly well-known ski resort of Veysonnaz is home to one of the most unique chalets in Switzerland, located in a quiet and beautiful traditional village with links into the extensive 4 Vallées ski area shared with Verbier.
Nendaz is another option in the 4 Vallees, with a central location within this extensive ski area. This resort has a more laid-back atmosphere compared to Verbier, it’s better known neighbour.
Add in stunning views over the Rhone Valley and some of the best value catered chalets in Switzerland, and Nendaz provides an exciting alternative ski destination.
Zermatt may well be the finest all round winter holiday destination in the Alps. It is a magical combination of high altitude and snow-sure ski slopes, the finest mountain restaurants and lots to do in the vibrant resort centre. Not to mention the ever-present gaze of the most famous mountain in the world, The Matterhorn.
The village charm of Saas-Fee is set against a magnificent circle of 4,000m peaks with skiing that seems to descend for miles and from glacial heights.
Our final resort in the Valais region is Crans-Montana, which simply has one of the most beautiful settings in the entire Alps. Sitting at 1500m on a large south-facing plateau, the views across the Rhone valley to the peaks bordering Italy are breathtaking.
The ski slopes extend up to a mighty 3,000m and are best suited to intermediate skiers who love long slopes and maybe a stop of in one of the 23 mountain restaurants.
To the east of Switzerland, the Graubünden region is home to 3 of the most famous names in skiing. St. Moritz, the home of the rich and playground of the famous, delivers a fabulous winter experience and a variety of snow based activities in which to engage or watch with a glass of champagne.
Lastly, but by no means least, Gstaad is one of the oldest and original glamour resorts of the Alps and a favourite destination of many famous Swiss residents. Its exclusive ambiance is enhanced by the endless fashion boutiques, but this is also a relaxed destination for a winter holiday.
The skiing is best suited to beginners and intermediates and the beautiful and timeless valley views add to the established charm.
