A magical combination of high altitude skiing and lively resort, Zermatt is a spectacular winter destination.
Zermatt is the embodiment of a world class resort and the mighty Matterhorn peak, inspiration for the delicious Toblerone, gazes down on this chocolate box resort. The jaw dropping scenery, gourmet mountain restaurants, sublime skiing, luxuriant chalets and nonstop nightlife are an intoxicating blend.
The resort is only accessible by train and on your arrival you enter a magical world of cobbled streets bustling with life and horse-drawn sleighs, ancient barns and picture perfect chalets.
The ski area is enormous and has great variety as well as numerous off piste to explore. Those who like freestyle will love the ‘Gravity Park’ and you can ski over into Italy via the Matterhorn glacier for a pizza and Prosecco lunch.
For the adventurous this is one of the best and most dramatic places to heli-ski and will only add to the memories that a winter holiday here will create.
There are four main sectors, all varied and beautiful, to the skiing on the Switzerland side of the ski area. The Rothorn sector is reached by an underground funicular, whilst the second area, Gornergrat, is accessed from Zermatt by cog railway trains that take around 30 minutes to the top. Here part of the experience is the journey to start your day.
These 2 areas are separated by the Findel valley but are linked by blue and red pistes and itineraries for expert skiers. The skiing here is on long flowing pistes perfect for adventurous intermediates that love to eat up the miles.
The smaller Schwarzsee area features some lovely runs as well as our favourite mountain restaurant Zum See. At the top of the resort is the Matterhorn glacier, home to the highest piste skiing in Europe. Stunning views are the backdrop to these wide sweeping runs all with the amazing Matterhorn sitting directly in front of you.
The variety of accommodation in Zermatt is extensive and our collection of handpicked chalets and apartments brings you the best there is. Our selection of Zermatt chalets includes many featuring stunning views of the Matterhorn as well as amazing views over the resort. If you are looking for a ski in ski out chalet in Zermatt, then the choice of a property in the Winkelmatten area will afford you not only direct access to the skiing, but also a quick journey into the centre of resort.
